The Business:

A professional sporting organisation which manages and supports an elite development pathway for athletes.


The Problem:

In order to develop more and better home grown athletes, the organisation identified a need to enhance the capability of leaders and coach developers to ensure young athletes have the best possible opportunity to maximise their potential.

The Approach:

We worked together to create a strategic development approach to ensure excitement and gain buy-in in an environment where such approaches were often viewed with suspicion. We drew upon the capability of experts in different fields to develop programmes which addressed a broad range of individual, team and leadership needs. We created:

  • Role profiles for key senior leader and developer roles to enable a deep understanding of the demands and skills required by each role.

  • A coach developer programme which covered leadership, adult development and technical skills related to the role.

  • An individualised leadership programme for leaders within key sporting organisations, which involved a detailed individual needs assessment and a tailored programme to increase the skill of all leaders across the youth part of the sport.

The Result:

The work of Acuity has contributed to the success of the people development strategy and leadership capability across this elite sporting environment. The impact has brought benefit to over 400 leaders within the system.
